Kony 2012 is a documentary made to help arrest Kony; it was
a social action that caught the attention of everyone that was on a social
network.
The issues being focused on in the documentary is the misuse
of power and the injustice of all. Kony has the power to kidnap countless
African children, brainwash them and force them to fight for him. Turning the
girls into sex slaves and killing those that don’t obey.
Kony has been was been wanted by the international criminal
court since 2005.
In the beginning of the documentary the director Jason
Russell introduces his family mainly his son.
Using images Russell introduces the live of his son. His son
now grown and able to talk introduces us to Jacob, the boy that forced Jason
Russell to want to make a video.
In the middle of the video, it was all about making
connections and making themselves heard but most important fighting back the
likes of Kony.
At the end of the video, Russell told the audience what they
could do to help rid the world of Kony (call of action).
The type of documentary is social action, using Facebook to
get the point across. The conventions used are no different then normal
documentary.

The purpose of the documentary was to raise awareness of
Joseph Kony.
Since Kony was so hard to catch, Russell had an idea to make
him famous instant so that he has no place to hid, in order to get him out of
hiding, everyone had to know what he looked like.
The purpose was also to raise awareness of Kony 2012
campaign.
The target audience for this documentary would be Global,
but since it was released on Facebook and everyone from the age of 11+ has
Facebook, the age group would be 11+.
The gender for this documentary is males and females, it
didn’t matter what gender you were, the point was to make Kony famous and stop
him and for that both gender had to be involved.
The type of people that would watch this documentary is the
people who have interest in social network and since now everyone has more then
one social network, I think the interest of this documentary is for everyone.
The way the audience were encouraged to participate in
creating change is by the end of the documentary Russell showed the audience
what had to be done and what they need to do if they wanted to help.
