The plot centers on the rise and fall of Tony Montana.

His wife, who becomes further addicted to cocaine, becomes bored and emotionally distant.

End
Tony marriage ends when she leaves him and he send send on a job to kill a man and he couldnt do it because of the man's family. coming back home, he finds out that his sister Gina and his right hand man Manny are missing. After getting Gina's home address from Mrs. Montana, who doesn't know who else lives there, Tony goes to the house in nearby Palm Grove. Much to Tony's surprise, Manny unexpectedly opens the door. Tony then sees Gina in a night gown at the top of the stairs. Enraged that another man has obviously slept with his sister, Tony shoots Manny dead. Hysterical, Gina reveals to Tony that they had just been married and were going to surprise him. Tony has Gina taken back to his mansion where all hell is about to break loose.
In revenge for Tony's failure to kill the journalist, who has now exposed Sosa and his partners to the world as drug lords, Sosa sends a swarm of assassins to Tony's mansion to kill him. Sitting at his desk snorting from an enormous pile of cocaine, Tony realizes and regrets what he has done to his best friend. When Tony is contemplating this, Sosa's army of assassins have breached the main gate at Tony's estate and have quietly begin to kill all the guards around the mansion. At the same time, a distraught Gina enters Tony's office armed with a pistol to confront him with the truth about his feelings for her. She now realizes that Tony loves her in an unnatural way and demands, at gun point, that he make love to her. She begins to shoot at him while demanding he take her.
As all his men are being killed, Tony, still delirious from the cocaine, leans over Gina's dead body begging for forgiveness, at the same time the hit men break into the mansion, Chi Chi opens fire with an Uzi as he falls back and ends up banging on the door to Tony's office (it has been locked from the inside by Gina who was planning to kill Tony). Unfortunately, Tony does not seem to hear him. Chi Chi is shot in the back and Tony sees it on the security cameras.
As the hit men prepare to storm his office, Tony finally snaps out of his drug-induced stance, arms himself with an M16 rifle with an under mounted M203 grenade launcher and blows down the door. A huge climatic gun battle begins as Tony takes position atop the grand staircase and guns down dozens of Sosa's men who try to storm the balcony. Tony is hit a number of times by return fire, but he keeps shooting. With most of Sosa's men dead, Tony, strung-out on drugs, defiantly yells out at the assassins, not realizing that The Skull, Sosa's chief assassin and leader of the assassination battalion, had sneaked into the room behind him. The Skull shoots Tony in the back with a 12-Gauge shotgun. Tony falls off the balcony and into a reflecting pool at the base of the grand staircase. In the final shot, as the Skull and the few surviving assassins look on, Tony Montana lies dead... face down in the reflecting pool which is located below a large brass globe that says: THE WORLD IS YOURS.

The film Scarface doesn't have different story line, which makes it a single strand film. the key story line was about the protagonist and his hungry for power and how he used that hungry to rise to the top of power chain and how he gets consumed by it all. the film is alternative, after watching the film i would say that it is alternative because all of the events in the film go in order. we see Tony Montana rise to power and at the end we see his down fall. Enigma rises during and at the end of the film because you end up having questions that were not answered in the film and even after the film is finished the unanswered questions still continue to bug you. for example:
Would Tony still have died if he had Manny fighting by his side?
Where is Elvira?
Will the money she inherits from Tony condemn her to the same faith?
How would Tony's mother feel finding out that both of her kids are dead?
If Tony didn't rise to all that power or he didn't use drugs would he let his friend live?

There were couple of equilibrium that got in Tony Montana's way that would have stopped him from meeting his goal and one of these things was Frank, Frank and Tony were friends but they ended up turning on each when Frank tried to kill Tony, that was the first equilibrium, the second was when Tony got caught counting money by the police but he found a way to over all of these equilibrium and meet his aim.

there was many climax involve in the film one of them being when Tony and his boys were doing a job and their got double crossed and one of Tony's guys just got dismembered and the same thing was about to happen to him.
another climax moment that created a suspense was when Tony just killed his friend and Alejandro send a lot of men to kill him and he was just in his office getting high on his drugs and men were climbing up to his house trying to get in but all of his camera and he didn't notice anything, i think that moment that a lot of suspense and climax.

Genre
Scarface was a gangster and there are a lot of things used in film that would make it stand out like a gangster.
one way being convention.  the are a lot of convention used in the film that would convey that it is a gangster film.
the conventions used in gangster are mainly violence, crime. drugs, love interest.

Violence: as soon as the film starts Tony kills someone, then there is a gun fight and Tony's friend dies and Tony kills the person who killed his friend. the film involves a lot of violence.

Crime: at beginning  of  the film, Tony is at a police station getting questions and because the film just started we don't know what he may or may not have done so 5 Minutes in film he is killing someone and then he is trading money. *killer. ....*drug lord

Drugs: at the beginning Tony didn't seem to be into drugs that much but others around him used to take it mostly Frank and Elvira but he used to deal drugs and at the end he started using himself  to the point when his whole face was in a lot coke.

Love interest: in the film was Elvira, who was with Frank first but ended getting won over by Tony and finally marrying her.

One of those or more thing are normally involved in gangster and scarface was no different.  there was a lot of violence and blood involves in this film.

One Convention that is normally used for Italian Mafia movies are suits. In Scarface suits was worn by all of the characters and the beginning when Tony was poor he wasn't wearing a suit but as he worked his way up and gained money, the more expensive his clothes have gotten, he switched to suits like all of the rich man in the film.

Visual
there are a lot things in the film that would hint to the audience what type of film it is visually. At the start we see Tony use a knife to kill a guy. there are a lot guns thought the whole movies where people where getting shot at or killed with, a chainsaw was used to dismember a guy.
there more conventional things to used visual is somewhere in the middle of the film when Tony rises to power and his big mansion, expensive suits, drugs and money. these are the visual that make it a gangster film.

Symbolic
the symbolic moment that happened in the film was when Tony got shot from behind and he fall into his pool and behind his dead body was ball that spins with the worlds 'the world is yours' this is symbolic and kind of ironic because he brought it when he got all of his power and that quote was something he said before. what makes it ironic is that he got it when he brought the mansion and everything else and now it was at the button with all. this is symbolic because we see how the world that he wanted along and consumed him, he had everything he wanted, the women, money, house but he still wasn't happy.
i think Tony had to died like that because if he lived it would sent out the wrong type of message and that message would be that you can do bad things, end up where you want and still live. Tony dying sent out the message that your crimes will catch up too you and that it doesn't matter if you think the world is yours, it will belong to another guy the next day.

Representation: How are men/women portrayed?

The key characters in film are Tony Montana, Manny Ribera, Elvira Hancock and Gina Montana. The way the characters are portrayed is both positive and negative but the way in the film women are representation is different to the way men are represented.

There are three main women in the film.

Gina, Montana.
Gina Montana is first introduced to the audiences when her brother comes over and the way she is first portrayed is like a typical little sister who loves and looks up too her big brother, she is first portrayed in a positive way as sweet girl.
when we see her at club about to go to a bathroom with a gut, she is portrayed in a negative. in a way it shows that she is growing from the girl we first saw to the kind of girl she is now. Gina says that she likes the guy she is with but her older brother isn't listening, which might explain her acting out but it could also mean that she needs a role model since her father left when she was young and her brother was missing from her life for 5 years.

Elvira
the first time we see Elvira she is in a lift coming down and we see her wearing a blue long elegant dress, throughout the film we see her wearing dresses that show of her asserts, i think this is meant to make her seem sexy and desirable which works for Tony because the first time that he saw her he seemed shocked and the way he was looking at her showed that he was interested instantly, i also think that she is represented as a sex object, anchorage to her clothing and her appearance. The women in Scarface are represented below men.

Mama Montana
Mama Montana is the only women that is represented as a strong and independent women, she doesn't want anything to do with her son and the way he lives his life and she portrayed as normal mother who is wants whats best for her children, like the way she wants Tony to get out of out the crime life and she works hard to give her daughter Gina what ever she wants. she is portrayed in a positive because she takes care of herself and works for herself

Tony Montana
Tony is represented as the main character the person who the whole story is based on, who is strong and he is loyal and hates disloyal for example when Frank double crossed Tony, he ended up dying. sometimes Tony is portrayed as hard, brutal man, but sometimes Tony is portrayed as kind man who loves his family who is protective, this is pointed out throughout the film when we see his relationship with Gina, we see how much he cares and loves her and how he wants her to stay that way, i think the reason he is so over protective is because she is the only good thing in his life and he wants her to stay that way, this might what led him to kill his best friend and he also has caring side for  kids, which is why he got upset when his wife couldn't give him kids.
Tony Montana is also known for being able to keep his word in the film he says 'all i have in this world are my balls and my word and i don't break them for no one'  this shows us as the audience how much means what he is saying.

Manny
Manny one of the main character is his is close friends with Tony Montana, Manny is portrayed as kind of a ladies man who is not very good at picking them up, while Tony Montana was busy with trying to get money and power, Manny was busy trying to chat up women, his motivation was mostly sex.
Manny is also shown to be a very loyal friend to Tony, at the beginning of the when Tony was poor and trying to find a way to get out of the town he was in, it was Manny who found the solution to the problem even though it involved killing a guy, he is always there for his best friend. for example: when Tony rise to his power, Manny is still looking out for him, when Tony and his sister Gina had a fight and he took her home and when she told him she liked him, he dismissed her because Tony warned him off, he was the perfect friend which made it even sadder when he died.

Target Audience
i think the target audience are young males in the age range of 18-30. the film is rated an 18 so obviously the target audience cannot be anyone below this age. there are some very adult subjects in this film, such as murder and drugs. scarface is a very typical male film. scarface is saying that everything comes at a price, especially greed and a thirst for wealth.
The ethnicity and nationality doesn't seem to matter for this film.

Violence
Scarface is full of strong violent scenes. i think the death that had a big effect on me was the scene with the chainsaw, a lot of film use chainsaws, but i really like the use of climax this scene created. this scene was full of violence but it was great scene. what i liked about this scene is Tony was double crossed and he doesn't like being double crossed and i like the fact that he killed the guy that killed his friend in the middle of the street.

the last scene where Tony died, it involved so much gun fight and violence. The way he died was very effective and i though it was a great way to end the film because it shows that no matter how high you think your up, your fall will always come. it was a good ending because giving it a good ending would have sent the wrong message.

Bill- The Discovery

Movie Name: Revenge
Subject: The discovery.
         Directed by: Sabrina Yaaqub
       Starring:  Cynthia Ankunda
                     Isabella Francis
                      Sabrina Yaaqub

For this task, I teamed up with Cynthia Ankunda and Isabella Francis, our main task was to create a short film about someone making a discovery. the pilot we came up with was about about someone getting murdered(me) and someone else (Bella) making the discovery and the killer (Cici) holding the knife. with a evil look in her eyes.
the storyline was meant to take place in a house and that was where the murder was meant to take place but we had to change the storyline after we filmed twice but the video didn't come out right, the lighting in the house wasn't great and when the second time didn't pan out, we had to change the storyline and everything.

Instant of changing everything we thought it might be better to link the discovery video with the video we made for the chase. in the video chase there was a murder that took place and the girl that died came back and killed the girl that killed her in the first place.

the storyline was quite simple so we made a simple video out of it. we used blood to make it look like she was killed in the sink.
the discovery was made by me (Sabrina) the video ended with cici on the floor kind of a justice thing.

we used long shot and close shot and different angels.

Editing
The editing was done by all of us and we each have different editing of the video.
i used text in my video to show what my characters are saying.

lock stock and two smoking barrels

The film that we watched in class and i will be reviewing is called Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.. the film was directed by Guy Ritchie.

The film was a sub genre containing both elements of comedy and gangster.
The film was alright in my opinion but is not something that i would normally watch but it was quite enjoy and the fact that through out the film they would all looking for the money got stole, the story line didn't really interest me but the comedy of the film had my attention.

the character were also really likeable which made the film just a little be for watchable.
overall i would give this film 5/10.

SOUNDTRACK PRODUCTION----David Allan

For this task i worked with Bella and Cici and we had to create for 4 questionnaires and we each interviewed each other and during the interview there was a conflict the interviewer and interviewee but it was sorted and we were back on track.

my part in this task was i created the 4 questionnaire and forced my group away from their computers to recored.
i kept them in line and we finished the work in no time.

the recording that i thought worked well was the Radio studio one because we were in a quite room and the microphone was close to us so we can hear each other very well and there was no background noises.
for the classroom recording i would say it was the second best, the sounds are clean and is sounds just as good but there was a bit of conflict.
the last one would be the outside recording, it would have turned out great but because the wind was blowing and people were shouting from afar, it didn't sound as good as the first two.

i think both Dynamic and Condenser Microphones are fit for particular tasks.
for example if you wanted a microphone for a crazy weather, Dynamic would be the one you would need. Condenser would be the one your looking for if your looking to record in a studio

Analysing Scarface Poster

  • Narrative
Scarface has a common structure where the story is told in an order in which the events happen with some gaps in diagetic time. this makes it easier for the audience to understand how Tony Montana went from the bottom to the top.
poster- tagline: the tagline 'he loved the american dream with a vengeance'  says a lot, it lets the audience know that he means business, it lets the audiences know that Tony Montana is a guy that use violence to get to where he is.

There's a lot of verbal dialogue on the poster, normally posters use visual to send there message through but this poster used verbal dialogue so maybe the text is used to let the audiences know how serious the film is.

In the poster Tony Montana (protagonist) is shown to holding a gun, which show us there will be murder and violence in the film, which already show that it is aimed at older target audience,
Trailer

voice-over

the trailer includes voice overs, narrating us through what is going on, in the voice over we learn how Tony wants power, Money and he has an interest in another mans women.  the voice over continues to tell how he came about such big power, how he entered the world of power and how the protagonist made his name as 'scarface'.

the conventions used in there trailer is most gun violence, which makes it very conventional for a gangster movie. wealth and money was also another convention used in the trailer and the other convention i noticed was love interest.

  • Characters
Al Pacino is the main focus of this poster, the title and his name are in the same size and place, showing how important he is to the film. Al Pacino was synonymous for playing gangsters like in Carlitos Way or The Godfather, so he's appeal and reputation is used as the main point of focus for this poster. The main information put across by this poster is the name, the synopsis, the genre.

In the trailer we see a bit more characters than the poster, the other character that we see as often as the main character is the best friend, he is often see next to Tony as his right hand man  (the protagonist). we also see a lady which could suggest to us a love interest between her and Tony. we also see a lot of other characters with Tony while he was making his way up top which suggest that they are the bad guys.

  • Technical elements e.g. camera, editing
There isn't a lot of editing on the poster because it didn't need much editing. the only way editing was used is the colours in the background, the two different use of black and white and the way the writing was used so that it stood out without really standing out.

The camera shots used in the trailer is long shot to show everyone protesting and fighting. a close up was mostly used to zoom into Tony's face to show what he was feeling and the emotion he was pro trying. a lot of fast cuts were used in the trailer in a way to show what happened in the film without really spoiling everything.

  • Representation
The main colours used in this film poster are white, black and red. The contrast between white and black suggest that this film is very dramatic as it's such a clear and dramatic contrast, it also seems to represent how serious the film is as it doesn't bother with any other colours or shades. The red for the title could connote blood, or the colour of newly formed scars which tend to come out dark red. It could also connote the violence and the horror aspects of the film, which is common practice for film posters. A black and white image of Tony Montana's pistol is clearly shown in his hand. the gun in the poster shows how there's aspects of murder and violence in the film so it already is aimed at an older market.

  • Identify and explain reasons for similarities/differences in the techniques used to target the audience.

the narrative used in both the trailer and poster are different. different methods were used to get the story line across to the audience.
the gun, tagline, verbal language used in the poster all connect with the narrative of the movie. the reason these were used are to attract the attention of the audiences.
the trailer uses voice over to give the audience a summary of the story and uses the conventions guns, love interest, power, money and violence to get the attention of the audiences. the trailer helps give information that the poster cant give so that the audiences are even more eager to watch the movie.

the similarities used in both the trailer and poster is the convention. the poster speaks of a man who came to power by using violence and that is what the trailer is saying as well.

the differences between the poster and trailer being that the poster doesn't give much away, we only see Tony on the poster, I think this was done on purpose seeing that the actor is well know for doing gangster films maybe the posters doesn't give much information away but the trailer on the hand shows us the the film involves more then just one characters, it shows Tony's right hand man, his love interest and many more people.

Task 3: Factual Television Analysis--David Allan

3A: Three devices
Ø Television
Ø Laptops
Ø Phones
   computers

3B
The devices I use to watch TV shows is on my laptop, my television or my phone...the devices that has the best sound quality for watching TV shows is television, television has the best sound quality because it has been checked and looked over before it got broadcast-ed but watching TV show on a phones is horrible because most of them are uploaded for the sake of just uploading them. Most of them have horrible sound quality, some you can hear but are really low and sometimes the lip-syncing doesn’t match the words and sometimes it doesn't have voice at all.
Surround and panning: Television is most capable for surround because sound pans around the room and setting the mood of the for the TV show, the least capable is phones. The reason why television has a better sound quality is because televisions speakers are especially for HD television sets have surround sound audio while phones have stereo audio.

3c
The mood it would be create if the film or show had a poor sound quality is a lake of enjoyment, to enjoy a film or a show, it needs good sound quality.
If the audience are watching an action film and the sound is panning, audiences start to lose interest in the whole thing.  Audiences found hard to understand shows and films due to unlistenable dialogue. Music creates the atmosphere in films, if someone is breaking in to a house, the background music is very important, if the music isn’t surrounding the listener, the whole atmosphere of the film is lost.

The sound effect is where the magic is, when a gun goes off you don’t believe it unless there was a sound effects. Sound effect is what creates the mood, meaning and gives the audience enjoyment, take that way and you have poor sound quality. If a film or TV show had a poor sound quality, it would lead to a lack of enjoyment, the mind would be wondering more about the bad sound quality then the action on screen

3D
This scene was uploaded on January 2, 2012.
The reason for using voiceover in this scene was to let the audience know about how the main character is feeling and what is she thinking. Voiceover is their way of showing us what’s going on inside the characters head.

The Jeremy Kyle show was published on October 2, 2013, a recording studio are specially designed to give the best possible quality of recording in front of large audience, which is why The Jeremy Kyle show was recorded there.

On June 2, 2013 BBC one interviewed Madonna about a campaign set up to help empower girls and women around the world. Interviews are used to find out information from a specific person.

Fifth gear was published on October 7, 2013. A moving sound source is used to add meaning to a visual clip for audiences and to add more realistic feel to diving.

David Workshop

For this work  shop, we had to find a video clip and watch and listen to the sound effect used and replace them. the only thing we were allowed to add was sound effects only (No music included).

what was hard about it?
i chose a video where there was a lot of fight scenes and i tired my best but some sounds are just harder to find then others. for example the whole fight scene was just impossible to replace, when you are looking for fight scenes to replaces with yours is hard to find because every movie is made with it own fight scene and special effect.
the sound of punching a wall was hard to find.
when the guy got throw through a glass chair it hard to find.
it was next to impossible to find the sound of the guy getting throw out of the window.

i didn't get a chance to finish everything but it was great task because it showed us what we can and cant do in the future with our own video.

The Chase Evaluation

                                                   The chase

For "the chase" i was teamed up with Isabella Francis and Cynthia Ankunda.
For our storyline we chose to go with two school girls, one who is sweet and likeable and there is the other girl who is dark and just crazy.
Cici has something against Bella, in class she is watching her, in cafe she is watching her....in her house she is watching her  and finally she kills Bella in her bed.

what went right!
I think the whole video shot was great, we didn't take long to film and it was snap snap snap.
we got all the video clips we wanted including camera angels and shots. the death scene with Bella looked great to me and i think the way we used light to show it was night time was just great.

what went wrong?
we were trying to get an high angel of Cynthia to show that she is powerfully but it didn't work, i think it is something we need to work on in the future.

My role for this task was the  recording (camera women) and i was also holding a light so we can that is night time, i was the camera women and the light women at the same time.
i was also the director of the whole thing and since i had the camera when something didnt work for me i can see through the camera so i can say what we can do it again to make it better.
the first time we recorded we recored in the dark and the video didn't come out very well so i thought it would be great if we tried using light.

Task 2 David Allan

Dialogue
The video i chose is from a TV show called one tree hill, the reason i chose to do this part is because it is heartbreaking.
the use of dialogue in these scenes are to help the audience understand what being lonely does to someone, jimmy (the guy with the gun) used to be bullied by everybody and he was the outside and he shows this at 0:12 seconds into the video, jimmy uses voiceover talking about how unfair everything is, at 0:28 he shows what he know thinks of everyone using flashback and dialogue we are shown what pushed him to do what he was doing.
at 4.32 Lucas finds Peyton, people who has been following the season would know that those two are have a lot of issues... the mood this creates is a moment of  hope for the audience because it has been a long time coming and when Lucas comes in search of her and finds her hiding out in the library. he stays with her and while they are waiting out so does Peyton's life, knowing that she could die, she said to Lucas 'if i say 'i love you' right now, will you hold it against me?' saying that leads them to kissing...and this is what creates the mood and meaning of the whole show because people have been waiting to hear the i love you part for a long awhile.

voiceover: the voiceover was used for this episode to show how upset jimmy was, how much angry he has in him and during the voice over, he talks about the people, the school and how much he doesn't want to come back.
9:19 when the clip was reaching the end another voiceover was done by Lucas, which is one of the main characters.

Sound FX: Most of the sounds are diegetic for example the gun shot at 1:45, the move was made in slow motion making the audience pause, and recover so that when the gun was shot and the  glass sheathed 1:53 the slow motion ended, as if the shot created the hush truth that their high school which was a safe heaven turned into a nightmare, other sound FX included screaming, shouting in fear, running...all of those sounds are in the film.

Music:  When Jimmy walks in the high school in 1:04 an tense music starts to play, suggesting to the audience that something was about to happen, something dramatic by the way the music sounds. it way to prepare the audience and  a way to build the suspense. When Payton and Lucas were in the library there was piano playing in the background, making the whole scene more romantic then it actually should be. the piano in the background is a non diegetic sound.
there was another piano being played in the background again and this time it was more upbeat, it went with the speech Mouth(the boy) was making. this sound was also non diegetic. another non diegetic sound was used when Jimmy had the gun pointed at keith and a song started playing in the background creating a sad atmosphere.
at the end of the clip it ends with a loud bang of Dan shooting his brother, leaving the audience with a cliff-hanger.

Spoken word: The scene i am analysing is from Blade 2 and in this scene the spoken word used is conversation during the scene you can tell a lot from what is being said in the conversation.
Blade is recruited to join a trained vampires that have been training to take him out but now they were expected to join each other and fight on the same team. you can see this is the first time they are meeting each other from being they are being introduced.

The blood pack have been trained to kill Blade and are not happy to have him on their team, one of the vampires reacts to blade being there and tries to kill him but Blade gets the upper hand and plants a boom on his head, he take charge and align himself with his mortal enemies.

Sound FX: when the scene starts, it begins with Blade coming down the steps when he is walking you can clearly hear the footsteps he makes with his heavy boots, the girl walking besides himself is walking high heels and her steps are not that allow.
Blade is joining an team that was trained to take him out but now are being forced to work with Blade because there is a threat out there bigger. One of the men from the blood pack (Rinehart) tries to take out Blade and Blade gets out a a silver stake and moves it around at super speed the sound of the stake moving is heard loudly, it almost sounds like the wind. When Blade gets the stake out and points towards Rinehart 1:11 the rest of the blood pack react and they all get they guns out, the sound of the guns clicking is heard as well as the sound of blades, the rest of the blood pack is getting ready to act if Blade goes near Blade but all of Blade's attention is on Rinehart.

At 1:31 Blade is trying to get Rinehart to react so he does some fancy moves on his stake and slaps him, the slaps sound is heard and seen in the blink of an eye. 1:44 Blade breaks Rinehart, he bends him over and at 1:48 the sound of peeping boom is connected to his head.

Music
In the background when Blade enters the room an tense instrumental is played in the background. and the sound gets less tense as introductions are made until the named Rinehart is said at 0:23 the background instrumental turns western drole as Rinehart walks towards Blade. The instrumental creates suspense. when he lends towards Blade at 0:48 and says "can you blush" the music picks up gets louder as if what he said is going to make a huge differences but when Blade laughs the music turns down, becoming more calmer and at 1:11 when blade gets his stake out the music picks up again more intense as if a fight is about to break out.
