David Allan EVALUATION

we watched two movies in class, that david played. shaun of the dead and the godfather, then he gave us papers so we can write down, the mood and meanings of the show that we watched, the mood and meaning is what makes a good movie.

I was teamed up with Abbie for this task we had to watch a movie and analyse it. we watched a movie called Millers Crossing Shots and in this movie, i anaysised the sound fix of the movie and Abbi did the music.

working in a group helps because it give you the chance to force on the one type of thing that your analysing for example if i was working on music, having someone else doing sound fix really gives me the chance to force on music.

after we were done working together, we had to do it as a presentation to the whole class, we play the film on the whiteboard, and just presented it to the class.

EVALUATION (BILL)

For this task, I worked with Cynthia Ankunda and Isabella Francis and in our group we came up with a simple role that we can all play, so we wrote a script  that was about three sisters whose father died and where fighting over the will and we asked one of our classmate, to recored the little drama between us.
we were not allowed to use any setting outside of college grounders, so we came up with the idea to recored in the cafe, where there was no one else but us.

Performance
At the beginning of our play, it opens with the three sisters praying with each other, but one of the three (me) was dressed like a muslim and praying like most muslims do but the other two sisters were holding hands and praying like Christians do, which makes it ironic.
the oldest child is sitting upright on the right hand, showing off her wedding ring off, looking more mature then the other two.. the second sister was sitting in the middle, showing that she is in fact the middle sister and different out of the two....the third sister, was facing the other way showing that she wasn't interesting in what the other two used to say.. she was just playing with her Ipad and Iphone
as the sisters continue to talk, the voices raise and they all start to shout at each other but the older sister tries to keep everything calm, and the middle sister is talking but no one can hear her because the other two are busy shouting as well.

there was a lot of things missing from our performance but this is helped us figure out what we can do better next time.

Lighting
Even through the sisters father just died, the lighting we used was high key to show off that the sisters didn't really care about their father but were just there to see what he left for them, instant of using low key to show the sadness, we used high key to show off the fact that the sisters didn't really care, the whole drama is about the money not the fathers death.

Costume
one of the sisters is muslim even though they were all christian at one moment which we added in our performance clearly, and she (me) dressed in full muslim clothing. the younger sister had a IPHONE & IPAD..to show she was spoiled by her fathers money. the older sister had a wedding ring to show that she is married..

Documentary Conventions=blowing for columbine and the lift

Conventions between the lift and blowing for columbine

Blowing for columbine use a lot more conventions than 'the lift'. the convention most was 'interview' Moore used interviews as a way to find out more about the use of guns. i think Moore used interview in order to persuade his audience into his way of viewing gun crimes.

The other conventions Moore used was archival footage and audio ... he used archival footage and audio in order to show us what happened for example the 911 call the teacher made was important because it portrays to the audiences without visual clues the emotion of the situation, maybe even allowing the audience to think of themselves as the teacher, through the distress in her voices and make us wonder what we would do in that situation.  the audiences respond the way Moore wants them to by feeling shocked and scared. the archival footage used shows the teacher is still affected by what happened and will always be.

Moore also uses facts and opinions as a convention in blowing for columbine.

The lift doesn't use much conventions as much documentaries do...the most common convention used was interviews and the reason why he used this convention was to get the views and opinions of the people that live in the flat building that is being torn down, the main convention for him was interviews because that was what Mark Issac whole documentary is about.
The Lift was a different kind of documentary which is why i think it was reseal way of  a documentary.

 Conventions they do not share?

The convention i think both documentaries don't share is target audiences.
i think blowing for columbine was aimed at young set of  target audience around the age of 18+ because i think the issues talked about in the documentary is the kind that effects teenagers and so on and it was also kind of entertaining with gun fights and the kind of music that was play.
the lift was kind of different for me, is not something you see young people watching these days, but i think it is something that an older target audience would like to see, the kind of people that are interested in watching day to day kind of documentary, which is why i think 'the lift; was targeted at more 37+ and on wards.

Another convention they dont share is facts.
blowing for columbine has a lot of facts, everything that was said there was something to back up on it but 'the lift' was different because it was based more on opinions then facts.

Archive footage is also other convention that is not shared.
'the lift' doesn't use much of conventions other then interview but blowing for columbine uses archive footage to show something that happened a 'once upon time'.

 Conventions they do share?

The conventions the two documentaries have in comment would 'interview' because it was something both of the movies did a lot of and the reason for that is because of the topic at hand.
'the lift' Mark wanted to know the opinions of the people that lived in the block which was why he kept riding the lift and the only way he could get his information was to interview people which is what he did.
blowing for columbine, Moore need to find out about peoples opinions on gun crimes and he also did it through interviews.

Bowling for Columbine

Bowling for Columbine

Bowling For Columbine is directed by Michael Moore, the documentary is a lot different from most because this documentary is looking at why America is such a violent country, especially when guns are involved.
Michael Moore wonders from interview to interview to anywhere where there is a gun issues, His first visit was to a bank in Michigan that gives a rifle to anyone that opens up a new account. Inside the bank he asked a lot of questions that question weather giving a rifle to anyone that opens an account is a good idea one of his questions were "Do you think it’s a little dangerous handing out guns at a bank".
Moore focuses his quest around the shootings at Columbine High School and the shooting of one 6-year-old by another near his own hometown of Flint, Michigan.

Two students responsible for a school massacre attended a school bowling class and Moore thought this was interesting since he doesn't think it has education value, he interviewed couple of girls that agreed.

I guess this kind of shows how the teachers are not really paying any interest to the students at all.

My thoughts on this documentary is that the whole reason Americans are carrying a lot of guns are because of fear, during the video, i heard a lot of people talk about how much they want to protect their families, people that have families live in fear of losing their families and instant of losing them they want to protect so their arm themselves.

during the video you see a lot of people buying guns and firing them even rifles at carnivals and shooting ranges.

Director of Communications was questioned about the missiles he builds and he believes that the missiles he is building is to defend american and not to hurt them. but building a missiles is bad itself because either you can use it and it can be used against you.

After watching the documentary i realised it is, the whole subject is sensitive so when Moore did the documentary, i like the way he went about it, giving his views and opinion, asking questions but at the same time not judging or making of fun of what he learned.

The facts were based on real facts , there were a lot of archive footages of a war that happened around american.

Footages of a boy who got killed was shown and the father of the boy was giving a protest and giving speech.

David Allan- Voiceover

                                                         Workshop

For this task we got paired up with different people that we haven't worked with before, i was paired up with Roisin and together we looked at different movies to figure out which movie we wanted to do a voiceover for.
the film that we went along with was a cartoon and the film was called UP.
for our voiceover Roisin and I wrote script each and we added it together so that we both like it.
the reason we chose this video is because it has a girl and the storyline is great and if we were to do a voiceover, i think it would really sound great, that was one of the reason why we chose it.

this is the edited video. firstly we made the video short from 4 minutes to maybe about 1 minute and half and we didn't use much voiceover but we used enough to get our point across.
the storyline was long so thats why we cut the video short but otherwise we would have kept, choosing which part of the film to delete was hard but we went with it anyways.

The lift

the lift"
the lift was a confusing documentary that i didn't quite understand when we first started watching it but, the documentary was about a men who was interested in interviewing people in a lift, the people started to give him bad looks when he first started but as he continued to come back each week people started to become more friendly towards him.
The target audiences for the documentary was unclear to me, mainly because inside the lift people from different ages were coming out in and out but the documentary didn't seem to be targeted at young people, to me it seemed like the target audience for the documentary was more of an older people than young.

Moving Image

Task 1: Moving Image Soundtrack Quiz

The three main elements of moving image soundtracks
   Spoken words
   Music
   Sound effect

Summarise the difference between diegetic and non-diegetic music and give an example of each.
Diegetic sound is a sound you only in the "world of film' which means it is a sound the characters in the movie can hear, a non diegetic sound is a sound that only the audience can hear because the sound is added in during the editing for example for a voiceover, .

Summarise the difference between synchronous and non-synchronous sound effects and give an example of each.
Synchronous sound: Synchronous sound includes all noises whose origins can be seen on-screen: in a "two-shot" conversation between two lovers you simultaneously see their lips flapping and hear the words they speak. In a barroom brawl you see and hear the chair crash over the cowboy's head. Non synchronous sound is any noise whose origin you can't see: that gunshot in the dark that almost hits the hero; the train whistle offscreen signifying that the two lovers must break their embrace as one leaves

List at least three different types of spoken word in film audio with an example of each. Post youtube links of these examples onto your blog.

Dialogue: is the characters in the film talking to each other, sometimes the sound can be rerecorded while the characters lip sync.

v   voiceover: is when a character in the movie narrates what is happening in the film.

d  Sound mixing: The process during the post-production stage of a film or a television program in which the collection of recorded sounds are combined into one or more channels along with adjusting the many attributes of the sounds such as the source signals’ level.

the film i chose is Eclipse

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlpPkwyincI

the reason I chose this videos is because it has an voiceover, and from the conversation they have you can tell what the r-ship is between them.
