Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Narrative
The poster includes 4 males and one is carrying cards, another is carrying money and the last one has a gun over his shoulders, at the button of the poster there is a tagline that reads ‘they lost half a million at cards but they’ve still got a few tricks up their sleeve’ which suggest to us as audience that they would try to find a way to get the money back.
The trailer tells us more about the four friends, in the trailer we see everything that is involved in the poster, we see one of the main characters losing at cards, we see guns being used and we see loads of money, which means the whole film centres around money.

Characters
In the poster the protagonist seems to all four man, and each of them seem to be doing something weather it is gun or money, they all seem to be important part of the film.
In the trailer all of the men seem to be friends and again they are the main characters but we do seem other characters in the trailer but the boys looking for the money seems to be the main subject.

Technical elements e.g. camera, editing, voice over,
The lighting used in the beginning of the film show that it is more like a real life., no fancy camera work.
The voice over tells us that there are 4 friends, which to us as the audience would mean that they are our main characters, it continues on with ‘They have 3days and 2 guns and 1 shot at greatness’. The trailer tells us that they have only one chance to do this right and and the fact that they have only 2 guns seem to be important, it makes us wonder if they would end up getting more guns and if so how would they do that.
Representation
Different set of people are represented in the first, we see a working class ,am to introduce us to the film, our impression of him is that he is a clever man, we see other people buying off the con-man, possible to be working class or unemployed. Gender is another thing, this film is highly based male orientated film, and the only woman in the film was a druggie that couldn’t walk by herself. The perception of the film in terms of age was that the older they are the more the more respect and the more authority you had over the younger for example Harry the hatchet was feared by the Bacon and his boys and his side man was an ex boxer.
Race was also seen as a stereotypical view as well, a African American man is an owner of a marijuana farm and was feared by many people who he dealt with as customers.

Compare the techniques used to convey genre in the advertising for Lock, Stock &- Two Smoking Barrels & Scarface Identify similarities/differences between them.

 Similarities
The similarities between the two films are both of the film involve a lot of gun fight scenes and the characters are also always aimed with guns. Both of the film involve wanting respect and wanting to gain that.
But the biggest similarities between the two movies are money. Tony Montana wanted money because it is something he never had but he wanted to work hard to get it.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels: they made money by canning and selling drugs but ended up losing it in a card game and for the rest of the film they try to get it back.

Differences
the differences between two films are in the scarface poster they was a picture of him showing us that Tony Montana is the main character and it includes information about how he gets his power. in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels there are four pictures instant of one and it inclues less information.
Scarface was more of a serious film whereas Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was more of a comedy film

  1. Sabrina, this is a competent analysis that demonstrates understanding of the texts. However, be careful of being too descriptive.
